Edge Free – Theme Freesia

First and foremost, I’ll start with the theme I use because I LOVE it!  It’s called Edge Free (there is also a plus version), and it has the perfect amount of customizability for me.  Theme Freesia has an amazing support forum that is incredibly helpful when setting it up and figuring it all out.  As free WordPress themes go, this one is a winner.  Click here to download it.  In addition to the great support, this theme comes equipped with:

  • Responsive design – SO important!  Read about the importance of mobile optimization here.
  • SEO friendly – this helps drive traffic to your site by ensuring pages are easily searchable.
  • Color options – something so important to me when choosing a theme.  I needed to easily customize the colors I used.
  • Multiple layouts – this theme is very customizable, especially in the layouts offered.

Kale – Lyra Themes

The next free themes I’ll highlight is the Kale theme.  Even the name sounds trendy!  This theme is marketed as a food blog theme; however, it would be great for any kind of blog that utilizes a lot of visuals.  There are so many opportunities and customizations for the size, shape and positioning of photos.  The photos really pop on the clean white background, too!

The Kale theme is a responsive layout, which is ideal for mobile optimization.  It includes so many different ways to customize the blog feed and the way your post are shown, so it never gets boring.  Click here to learn more and download it now.

Sydney – Athemes

Sydney is a great theme for businesses and freelancers.  The large header image can really make a statement about your brand.  It provides the building blocks you need to construct a great home page that will draw clients in.  And, it’s mobile optimized so you can check that off the list!  Some other benefits include translation ready files that make translating a breeze, slider or static images in the header and front page blocks to help you lay out a great home page.  Click here to download this theme.
